What is a Partnership?

A school-community partnership is a formal relationship between one or more schools and a community group (e.g. business, government agency, church, civic organization) not affiliated with the school, who wish to provide services and/or in-kind and/or financial support on a voluntary basis.  The goal of partnerships is to promote student success while providing enriched learning opportunities.

Partnerships can impact:

  • Academic achievement
  • School attendance
  • Career planning
  • Student enrichment
  • Self-image and school pride
Here in Toledo, there are over 150 school-community partnerships whose success depends upon the support of approximately 3,000 volunteers annually.

Model Partnership Kits - Great New Resource Available!

Our five new partnership kits are available free of charge to school and partnership personnel serving Toledo Public Schools and needy Diocese of Toledo schools. The kits include sample timelines, forms and support materials to help make the process of partnering easier and more effective. The five kits are:

Starting or Expanding Your In-School Tutoring Program - gives school personnel, volunteer coordinators and partnership liaisons all of the information needed to run an effective tutoring program.

Starting or Expanding Your In-School Academic Mentoring Program - provides step-by-step instruction on starting a program to give additional support to students who can benefit from an adult mentor to help set goals, review academic activities, and keep a student on track.

E-Mentoring Program - will assist in creating electronic mentoring programs that target student writing skills while giving students mentors to encourage their personal growth and development.

Math Facts Marathon - provides the blueprint for developing and implementing this activity to help students prepare for achievement testing time.

Student Attendance Incentive Programs - gives model program examples and case studies of student incentive activities around the country.

The model partnership kits were funded with a grant from the Toledo Rotary Foundation. To request one or more partnership kits for use with your school, please contact Partners In Education. Thank you, Toledo Rotary!
